They're both short (or standard, for those who don't eat and breathe shonen anime) 26 episodes I believe.
Between Yuki Kajiura and See-Saw doing music for .hack//SIGN and ALI PROJECT doing music for .hack//ROOTS, there is some damn good music there.
Can you tell music is a big part of it for me?

Watch Haibane Renmei. The score in that series sends chills down my spine.
Guy who composed it also did the music for the game Shadow of the Colussus. Also a great score.
Heres the opening.

Hitoshi Sakimoto did the score for Romeo X Juliet. He has done music for a shitton of games, including Final Fantasy XII.

A well structured, thought provoking story is what I look for in an anime. Music is nice, but usually takes 2nd place when I'm searching for an anime. Azumanga Daioh is an exception though, but its just so damn absurd.
Edit: Oh hell naw. A triple post!?!

Agreed.
I like FLCL due to its absurdity as well.
Lulz, this comic pretty much sums up what I think of Inuyasha http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=191

You're allowed to hate because it's popular, I'm allowed to hate because it's too different from what I'm used to in that franchise.
I USED to like Inuyasha, but then it just got repetitive.

Inuyasha took about five thousand episodes to cover what could have been done in fifty. Much like DBZ.
Too different? lol.

Updated my list.
Yeah... too different. A large part of it was the style of the drawing and the traits of the voices... it just lost that dark vibe that surrounded it.

Yeah the movie is very good, but nothing like the series really. A lot more dark and violent. (right up your alley =D) It takes place about 30 years before the series and is really just giving you a glance at Saya's true character.

Haru.... mind pointing me in the direction of where I could find a link to some Romeo x Juliet episodes. I really want to at least give the series a try, but I can't find anything, anywhere <.<;

Here's the same torrent I had:
http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/47495292/
The first 13 episodes or so have subs, the rest do not. Funimation made Shinsen-Subs stop subbing.
Fucking assholes. I don't care if it's licensed, subbing and dubbing are not the same.

That reminds me, I ran across that title a year or so ago while looking for animu-moos to watch, and I ended up looking up more info on it in google. Found out a lot of the concepts were borrowed from a book written by Haruki Murakami, which at that point I decided to read Murakami's book instead (Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World -- I recommend the book actually, but alas this isn't the literature sectin :<). But yeahhh, I need to go and download Haibane Renmei, thanks for the reminder

The cartoons produced here probably have the same reception as you're having to anime. They ARE the same thing for different cultures Rhyss.
