PostSubject: Animuh   Mon Oct 13, 2008 6:15 pm

I know only about half of us here even enjoy anime, but that's still enough to warrant a thread in my opinion. (Keeping flaming to a minimum. We all know some people don't like anime and that's perfectly fine) Lets start off this thread by posting our favorite animes, that you would suggest to others, shows that you did not prefer, and what anime we are currently watching. Hopefully it will be a good spark for discussion.

Animes I have seen and adore:

Black Lagoon
Haibane Renmei
Code Geass :3
Death Note
Azumanga Daioh =D
Claymore

Animes I do not like/have grown to hate:

Elfen Lied
Bleach
Neon Genesis Evangelion .-.

Currently Watching:

Soul Eater (one I would suggest if you can stand generic shonen. Has an interesting feel to it.)
Cowboy Bebop (Slowpoke.jpeg)

Oh you should definately watch code geass and death note. I understand they are swooned over by thousands of fanboys and girls, but sometimes things become popular just cause they are damn good. (Same thing may apply with the Twilight series, I know, I know) But I know from personal experience that those two shows have much more to them then what the average animetard would rave about.

OMFG teh battles are so kewl!!127
ZOMG L is soooo KAWAII!!!!

Such comments are shallow impressions of the series that you would hear from any fanfaggot. However, both shows are very thought provoking and overall just damn good stories. But I do have to say, and this applies to both, The first seasons/parts are amazingly well written and structured. Yet as the series progressed you can see a shift in the story and, to me at least, its glaringly obvious that the producers just under pressure crapped out episodes as to please the now raving and idiotic fanbase their shows had garnered.

Oh also, I've been thinking about watching Rounin Kenshin. Why exactly do you like the series? So I have something to go off from.

Kenshin is just overall very good. I have only seen then English, but Matt tells me that is it infinitely better in Japanese. I like my anime to have the perfect mix of action and drama, and RK hits that right on the nose (same with S-CRY-ed and Romeo x Juliet). Also, the music is absolutely amazing.

I jumped through hoops to finish watching Romeo X Juliet in Japanese, as my fansub site stopped translating mid-show due to it being licensed.

But dammit, I did, and it was awesome.

Being dubbed. It's a one-shot.

Well a lot of the good anime has a lot of shakesperian influence to their stories, no doubt. Kinda would be interesting to see a anime remake of a true shakesperian tale. May give it a shot later.

It's a great anime, quite possibly my favorite. It has the same basic plot as the play, but there is actually a point to what happens.

Watch it plssssss.

Only if you promise to give code geass a chance :3

I really have a feeling you'll absolutely love the first season at least. Lelouche just seems like your type of character. (Kinda like Kaiba from Yu-gi-oh)

What?! It's effing hilarious! And the movie captured it perfectly. Well, except for the prince being black. That was wtf.

Didn't think it was funny at all. The romance was purely sickening, the characters were shallow, and the plot was predictable. All these things would be maginfied ten-fold in an anime reproduction.

Trix - much like Romeo and Juliet, that was the point.
Look at the title "Much Ado About Nothing." The entire play is making fun of relationships.

Quote :
That a woman conceived me, I thank her; that she
brought me up, I likewise give her most humble
thanks: but that I will have a recheat winded in my
forehead, or hang my bugle in an invisible baldrick,
all women shall pardon me. Because I will not do
them the wrong to mistrust any, I will do myself the
right to trust none; and the fine is, for the which
I may go the finer, I will live a bachelor.

C'mon. Benedick is great.

I really didn't like Romeo and Juliet either, or any Shakesperian play for that matter. But I acredit him for setting the standard off of which later entertainment media that would influence our culture branched off from. So yes I do understand the point, but it doesn't mean I have to enjoy them as stories. And really Shakespeare back then would equal to Stephen Speilberg today. Both did well to present what was popular around them to the masses, but in reality neither have done much to change much of anything.
